HARD TIME – THE MOVIE

Peace ya’ll. I know it’s been a minute but your boy got a lot on his plate, in a good way. I spent Thanksgiving Day in the air and my birthday weekend rocking out with my dudes Das Efx in back to back shows in Colombia, South America and at the Linea16XL MC Battle in Mexico the next day. Since then I’ve been gearing up for the release of HARD TIME – THE MOVIE. If you didn’t know, I’ve been doing film work for a long time. I actually was one of the pioneers of the street DVD movement in the early 2000’s and have since made a few music videos. For the past few years I have been quietly writing short stories to adapt to films and screenplays in the future. A few years back by a fluke meeting that can only be called fate, I met a director who wanted me in his short film. A couple years later and here we are with HARD TIME – THE MOVIE. I know I’ve been saying I’m gonna be acting more and here is the proof. I actually intend to focus a lot more on my budding actor/film maker career. Live the life you love and love the life you live.

Kinda like Michael Corleone said in the Godfather, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” The mixtape game has been dead for years. Honestly, in my eyes the hip hop game is almost dead, or at least the artform and lifestyle aspect of it. Sure, there are millions of dollars being made by talentless people and executive puppet masters but what happened to doing things for expression and the culture instead of just the almighty dollar. It’s been far too long that I heard a mixtape or even an album I could play front to back and put me in “my zone” We all know that zone a good mixtape or album can take us. Left lane music. A soundtrack to headbutt a rhino. I’ve been longing for that for a while. Since nobody was making anything to move me I made something to inspire myself and hopefully others as well. I’ve come out of my mixtape retirement to add one final entry to the classic catalog. Hopefully it will ignite a spark somewhere to keep the fires of originality spreading. Enjoy and please spread the word on all social media platforms. There might even be a lesson or two to be learned somewhere in there.

Feelin Irie 6

If you’ve never been to a competitive sound clash please believe it is quite an exciting experience. Since discovering dancehall and Bob Marley in the mid 80’s I’ve loved reggae music. In the early 90’s I became a fan of sound clashes after listening to sound systems like Black Cat, Firgo Digital, Stone Love, Silver Hawk and my hometown favorite from East Ny Brooklyn, King Addies. I really appreciated the creativity and effort that went into making the exclusive dub plates these sound systems would play. You would have an artist remake a popular song, often to a different “riddim” or instrumental from the original, and customize the words to give props to the sound system and it’s members. They would be played in a competition against other sound systems to see who could have the most original and/or exclusive dubs and get the greatest response from the crowd. I even began to make reggae remixes and press them on dub plates to play at my gigs and made custom remixes for many other sound systems.

Feelin Irie is a series where I try to bring elements of a sound clash to a mixtape. From the exclusive remixes to the speeches from the mcs it plays out differently from your typical mix. Enjoy and feel free to flash your lighter and give some “forwards” Available now in the cd shop
